Deductive methods are being applied to answer questions based on multiple information services, including data and software. We are especially interested in questions whose answer is not given explicitly by any one source, but instead has to be deduced and composed from little bits of the answer supplied by many sources. Web services and other online sources, text and structured data bases are consulted.

The approach has been incorporated into GeoLogica, which answers geographical questions, and Quark, which acts as an assistant to an intelligence analyst. We are currently developing a question-answering assistant for research biologists.
