Understanding how a set of events is laid out in time is crucial to a variety of natural language processing applications, including question answering and document summarization. As a result, a variety of techniques have been recently developed for identifying times, events and the relations between them. These techniques typically depend on high quality large-scale corpora hand-annotated with appropriate temporal information. However, the corpora currently available are small and have some issues with annotator consistency. A number of current research efforts are working to address these problems, both to produce new corpora and to update the old.
